As president of the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta, I welcome you to our web site on behalf of the men and women of Georgia’s First Kiwanis Club, founded in 1918 and still today an inclusive welcoming group dedicated to making a difference for children and our community.
Through our sponsorship of Builders Club, Key Club, and Circle K, we serve children and young people by teaching Kiwanis values and the joy of serving others, emphasizing spiritual values rather than material ones. Our members are active with children and in the community: planting trees at Hillside Hospital; joining with the Boys and Girls Clubs for their Kids Cultural Challenge Day; meeting the boys and girls at Camp Kiwanis; reading to Headstart children and providing them each with a new book every month; or greeting our troops coming home or shipping out at Hartsfield-Jackson.
Connecting with other members is a highlight of every Tuesday meeting at the Loudermilk Center. Current, retired, and emerging leaders in business, nonprofit, military, academic, and public arenas enjoy fellowship and friendship while having the opportunity to hear programs of local, national, and global matters from mayors, senators, ambassadors, corporate leaders, and other outstanding speakers. We seek to learn, serve, and connect.
In lieu of fundraising events, our Kiwanis Foundation of Atlanta conducts a yearly campaign to solicit donations from our members. Last year, with these gifts, together with investment earnings from the endowment fund, the Foundation distributed over $250,000 to more than 25 deserving organizations and projects.
If you are like our members who seek a way to serve and give back to the community and you have not yet found it, we invite you to consider Kiwanis. Take a look at the Club bulletin and find an upcoming Tuesday program of interest. Call our office, be our guest for lunch, and let us share our joy of being Kiwanians and being Georgia’s First Kiwanis Club, the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta.
Thank you.
