New Tax Law Changes - A Legislative Update

Lynne Riley was appointed by Governor Nathan Deal to serve as the State Revenue Commissioner in January of 2015. Lynne comes to the Department of Revenue most recently from the Georgia General Assembly, where she served four years in office as the House District 50 (Johns Creek) Representative. She served as one of Governor Deal’s floor leaders in 2014, and as a member of the Ways and Means, Natural Resources and Environment, Retirement and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Oversight committees. Riley served as the Fulton County House Delegation Chair during the 2013- 2014 session, and as a Governor’s Floor Leader in 2014.

Commissioner Riley served as the Fulton County Commissioner for District 3 from July 2004 to December 2010. In service to the citizens of North Fulton, Lynne collaborated with the Fulton Legislative Delegation in the creation of the new cities of Sandy Springs, Johns Creek and Milton.

Commissioner Riley currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Federation of Tax Administrators, the Southeast Association of Tax Administrators, and the Identity Theft Tax Refund Fraud Information Sharing & Analysis Center Senior Executive Board.

Commissioner Riley has long been involved with an extensive group of community and civic organizations. Riley is a member of the Class of 2005 of the Atlanta Regional Commission's Regional Leadership Institute and an alumnus of the Coverdell Leadership Institute.  Riley is currently the Board Chair of the Johns Creek Advantage, and a member of the Emory Johns Creek Hospital Board of Trustees. Lynne is also a proud member of the Rotary Club of Johns Creek-North Fulton.

Lynne Riley was Principal of Riley Accounting Services for over 30 years. Lynne is married to Mike Riley, who recently retired after 26 years of service with The Coca-Cola Company. They have three adult children and one grand-daughter. The Riley family has enjoyed living in the Johns Creek community since 1988.

Member Networking - Have a Spotlight Shine on You!
Do you want to let the members of our club know more about you and your business?  Do you want to network and cultivate more business contacts?  If you answered yes, then you need to sign up to do a "Member Spotlight" at one of our club meetings!
Spotlights are done every 2nd and 4th Tuesday luncheon meeting (and the occasional 5th) each month.  You have two minutes to showcase your business and tell the other members how you can benefit them!  To get on the schedule, just email Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com.

We Need YOU to be a part of the "Lunch Bunch"!
Our club is looking for about 6 individuals who are willing to become part of the "Lunch Bunch" team!  Team members will help the lunch meetings operate smoothly by working the a/v board and sounds system in the back, ensuring that any a/v the speakers use are properly set up, and working the microphones during the Q&A sessions!

While no technical experience is necessary, volunteers should feel comfortable and confident adjusting sound levels and setting up the computer for power point and video presentations.  And the benefit is a dedicated comfy seat at the a/v table during lunch!  wink

Please contact Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to sign up!

Kiwanis Club of Atlanta new buffet luncheon feature
Beginning on Tuesday, May 29th, our club's luncheon meetings will feature a new buffet format, enabling members and guests to choose from both hot and cold items.  All current hot and special meals that you may be getting will be discontinued unless you notify the office by May 24th.  Again, if you have any dietary restrictions, or would like to continue to receive a portioned hot meal, please notify KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com by May 24th.  This new lunch buffet will be a great way to enjoy the foods you like and provide the flexibility to folks as they arrive at various times.

In addition to the lunch buffet option, from time to time, we will have our lunch in the Ann Cramer Room, on the 2nd floor of the Loudermilk Center.  It is a more intimate meeting space and makes our group look HUGE!  smiley  If the Loudermilk Center is able to sell the Ballroom space for a price that covers our lunch and nets them a profit, then they will do it.  There are several of our larger meetings that we have each year that are protected and will never move. So no worries there!  We thank all of you for your support and understanding and helping us to maintain a good relationship with the Loudermilk Center and the United Way of Metro Atlanta.

Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Car Decals
Don't get the BOOT!  Be sure your car has a Kiwanis Club of Atlanta car decal properly displayed on your vehicle.
The security company contracted by Lanier Parking will be booting all cars that are parked in the reserved parking places and that do not have a valid decal on their car identifying them as attending the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta luncheon.  So if you arrive prior to 11:45 am on Tuesday, please make sure you have a parking decal on your car.  You can get a decal from Karen at the luncheon meeting, and then place it on the right back window (passenger side) from inside your car.  They are static cling, so easy to put on and take off!
