The Changing Nature of Education
The Changing Nature of Education

Joe Bankoff was appointed chair of The Sam Nunn School of International Affairs in spring 2012 following six years as president & CEO of The Woodruff Arts Center and 32 years as a senior partner at the Atlanta-based law firm of King & Spalding.

Mr. Bankoff’s association with Georgia Tech spans more than a decade and has been primarily focused on his work as the head of the law firm’s Intellectual Property and Technology practice group.  In 1998 he worked with his, then, law partner, Sam Nunn, in the creation of the first of the Nunn Policy Forums at Georgia Tech.  He was a member of the advisory board of the College of Computing and served as its vice chair for several years.  He has served as a board member of the Georgia Center for Advanced Telecommunications Technology (GCATT).  At the request of Georgia Tech President G. P. “Bud” Peterson, he participated in Georgia Tech’s 2010 strategic planning process.  He currently serves as the chair of the nominating committee for the Ivan Allen Jr. Prize for Social Courage.

Mr. Bankoff's expertise ranges across law and policy, economic development, government legislation, fiscal planning, and global issues. In 1992, he took a sabbatical from his law firm to accept an appointment as a visiting scholar at the Max Planck Institute for Intellectual Property & Competition Law, Munich, Germany.  There he became engaged in the analysis of multi-jurisdictional copyright claims arising from satellite television in Europe.  He later represented German Television (ZDF) in a related dispute with Turner Broadcasting.  He also served as counsel to Atlanta’s Olympic Organizing Committee negotiating the television rights agreements for Europe (EBU), Canada, Australia, Latin and South America, and the United States.

Nominations for Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Board of Directors are being accepted now.
If you have a desire to serve on the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Board of Directors, now is the time to submit your name for consideration!  All qualified members who express an interest to serve will be on a list for potential nomination.  Members will complete their nomination forms at the meetings on March 6 and 13, and those persons receiving at least 10 nominations will have their name submitted on the ballot for election at our club's annual election on April 2, 2019.

To qualify as a board of director, you must be a member in good standing (current on dues and have made a contribution or pledge to the Kiwanis Foundation of Atlanta) and have served in a prior leadership position with the club as a chair or vice chair of a committee.

If you would like to submit your name, please send your request to Mike Halpin, chair of nominations and leadership development committee, kiwanisclubatlanta@gmail.com by March 19, 2019.
March is Photo Month!
SMILE!  Need to add or update your photo in the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta directory?  Julius Lee will be taking photos before and after all the luncheon meetings during the month of March!  So put on your best smile and make sure your gorgeous mug is on view for all the members to see!
We Need YOU to be a part of the "Lunch Bunch"!
Our club is looking for about 6 individuals who are willing to become part of the "Lunch Bunch" team!  Team members will help the lunch meetings operate smoothly by working the a/v board and sounds system in the back, ensuring that any a/v the speakers use are properly set up, and working the microphones during the Q&A sessions!

While no technical experience is necessary, volunteers should feel comfortable and confident adjusting sound levels and setting up the computer for power point and video presentations.  And the benefit is a dedicated comfy seat at the a/v table during lunch!  wink

Please contact Karen at KiwanisClubAtlanta@gmail.com to sign up!

Kiwanis Club of Atlanta Car Decals
Don't get the BOOT!  Be sure your car has a Kiwanis Club of Atlanta car decal properly displayed on your vehicle.
The security company contracted by Lanier Parking will be booting all cars that are parked in the reserved parking places and that do not have a valid decal on their car identifying them as attending the Kiwanis Club of Atlanta luncheon.  So if you arrive prior to 11:45 am on Tuesday, please make sure you have a parking decal on your car.  You can get a decal from Karen at the luncheon meeting, and then place it on the right back window (passenger side) from inside your car.  They are static cling, so easy to put on and take off!
