Steve Owings is a native of Augusta, Georgia, where he graduated from Richmond Academy. He received his BBA degree from the University of Georgia. Before entering the financial services industry, Steve worked in Corporate America for 20 years in numerous roles of ever increasing responsibility, mainly in Atlanta.
In 1997 he resigned from a senior management position and joined the Goodwin Agency of the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network to pursue a career in the financial services industry. In 2003 his peers voted him Agent of the Year. In 2021 he opened Bleakley Financial of Atlanta along with younger business partners.
Over the course of his financial career, Steve has earned the Certified Financial PlannerTM (CFP®), Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), and Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) designations.
Following the tragic loss of their beloved son, Cullum, in 2002 in a crash with a tractor trailer on Interstate 81 near Lexington, Virginia, Steve and his wife, Susan, along with their surviving son, Pierce, founded Road Safe America. This non profit organization is dedicated to reducing the injuries and deaths resulting from collisions between tractor-trailers and passenger vehicles. Since it was established in 2006, Steve has been a member of the Motor Carrier Safety Advisory Committee of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and served as chairman of the Committee in 2013-2014.

AMIS's 44th Welcome Reception for International Students will be held this Saturday, September 24 from 2-5 pm at Coda Plaza in midtown Atlanta. We are planning to welcome 400 attendees from over 70 countries around the world who are attending over 12 colleges/universities in metro Atlanta and Georgia.
